| Family
At Calvary Church we have a different emphasis on family than you might find at many other churches. After seeing statistics about different areas of the christian life, we have gone through a few changes. When it comes to youth, we try hard to have parents involved in youth activities as much as possible, and we try hard to give them training and resources to help in raising their kids. We believe strongly that they are to the be the spiritual caretakers of their children, and that they should not hand over such a critical responsibility to anyone else including their local church. One example of one of these aids is theParentLink newsletter.
Another area that might seem obvious to a guest at Calvary is the inclusion of our children in the worship services. After the children reach the age of six, we have them in the service instead of ushering them off to a classroom. We believe that they are better off learning to worship alongside their parents and other adults, and as a result will more easily integrate into adulthood when they get older. But we do understand that they have different attention spans than adults, so we supply children's pages to them during the service. These pages have puzzles and pictures to draw that integrate with the sermon subject. |
