Calvary Church Overview

Calvary Church is a non-denominational, evangelical church with a long history of effective ministry in Pueblo , Colorado . Calvary is committed to reaching this and coming generations with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Although we have a long history, we are very contemporary in style and feel. We emphasize engaging God in passionate, authentic worship; experiencing community in small groups; empowering families to pass on their faith; and extending the good news around the world.

We offer a full range of children’s and youth ministries, including Sunday classes in the form of Community Groups, Sunday Children’s Classes through The GroZone, FamJam Family Worship, Youth meetings and activities, AWANA, VBS, and many other items. Calvary is also the host church for a number of exciting ministries such as MOPS, CBS, and other various ministries.

Calvary is made up of a variety of denominational backgrounds and age groups. The church has been in existence since 1881. For most of its history, Calvary was associated with the American Baptist movement. 1n 1996 the church left this affiliation and soon dropped “Baptist” from its name. Since then Calvary has attracted members and leadership from a variety of backgrounds. We have emphasized “majoring on the majors” doctrinally, stressing the core tenants of evangelical Christianity.

Calvary is currently a congregation of about 300. We have a long-standing commitment to reach people for Christ, and are retooling our ministry emphasis and our staff in order to be as effective as possible. Our staff currently consists of a Senior Pastor, Family and Youth Pastor, Worship Pastor, Office Manager, Receptionist, and Janitor.

Our Senior Pastor is Dr. David Asch. A graduate of Talbot School of Theology, he pastored new churches in Missouri and California before coming to Calvary in 2002. He is a gifted expositor and is passionately committed to the local church. Pastor Dave’s arrival has ushered in a new era of vision, passion, and direction at Calvary , building on the strong heritage God has given us. We are looking forward to what God has in store for Calvary , and believe the best is yet to come.
